Got out to local lake just North of Sudbury , got these in 38 FOW . Largest measures 23 inches 1 ounce shy of 5lbs second weigh in at 3.2 lbs. Largest one caught on Ratling Rap the remaining all on deadstick with minnow.
Had to let another 4lb go and missed two others which both felt heavy also.

I noticed the same thing. Not saying that this is a rule everywhere but on a lake I go to in the Huntsville area, darker lakers are the native blood line to that lake and the lighter are the stocked ones.

Both fish are natural to this lake , many we get in the summer are really black in color . The 4 pounder I released was black as spades.
This lake is not stocked at all as we can fish for multispecies .
