Hi Folks,
I finally made it out this season for some much needed F & R .. Fishing & Relaxation. LOL
Sorry for the slow start this season, been busy at work and with family stuff, but had some time this long weekend and headed out to a back lake for some splake fishing.
On Sat, braved the cold, wind and snow flurries and walked out to an area where I have had some success with splake in the past. Drilled a few holes at various depths on the tip of an island which drops off from 10 fow to 50 fow. Didn't mark many fish at all and it was a slow morning, but around 10 am, I finally saw a fish on the sonar come in and swipe my bait. Missed it the first time, but it came back again and this time set the hook and battle was one. Fish had some weight and after a few runs -- a chunky pike about 4 lbs came up the hole.. Ok this could be the reason, I am not catching any splake. Kept at it and hit another nice fish with weight a 1 pm, but this time my line broke or it was cut. Most likely another toothy critter.
On Sun I tried again, this time meeting up with some friends. Around 10 am same time, I hooked into a nice fish and topside came the target species, Landing a nice splake 1 to 1.5 bs. Then the pike action picked up and the Petersen's put on a clinic and each landed a nice pair of chunky pike. Lost a few fish as well, But all in all a great time and fun weekend!
Here is some much needed fish porn...
