The old fella and I headed out this morn at the crack of dawn to do a little fishing on sever sound. We arrived at waub at 540a.m and began casting our favorite lures at our prime locations. The first hour was pretty slow with only two hammer handle pike and a smallie that would not top the scale at about a pound. We decided to go out into deeper water and work the surrounding shallow shoals. This didn't disappoint as I soon landed a 3.5 pound smallie followed by a 2 and 3 pounder all within a half hour of one another. Still we considered this rather slow and with noon approaching it was time to headback toward shore and grab a coffee to carry us through the afternoon. On our way back in I stopped at the spot my daughter nailed a couple beauts on Saturday and decided on a tiny jig head and white tube set under a small pencil float. It just hit the water and splash!! a monstrous fish broke water and grabbed the float. I of course missed the fish this time but a few minutes later in the same spot, down went my float and the fight was on.Landed the fish after a lengthy battle and it was the largest bowfin I had ever seen a whopping 11 pounds. I also caught one afterwards around 5 pounds sandwiched between a trophy largemouth that topped out at 4.4 pounds. To top it off the last fish of our day was an amazing gar that approached the five foot range. !!! One average day at Severn sound!! Lol. Pics to follow.
