Its most likely Ciscos or small whitefish. I had the exact same thing happen to me in temagami a few years back. You need to down size. Put on the smallest jig you have with the smallest minnow. They should commit to it, just watch for a really subtle bite.

Oh, by the way, I dont know the actual weight of the jig I used, but it was smaller than those tungsten teardrop jigs. Took what felt like 5 minutes to get the jig back down fish after fish.

Shank's bang on , tip up with 2 way spreader baited with "small" minnows , large minnows might get you a trout but their season doesn't open till feb 15..

Chumming sure helps , salted small minnows and boiled barley both work , if fishing deep water use a dump can to keep chum under you ..

If you fish at night in temagami, be prepared for ling fest 2021. Theres tons of them there. More than I've seen anywhere else. They don't fight all that great unless you get a decent one, but they are supposed to taste good.

They are there. I dont think there has been a night in temagami where I havnt caught one and I've fished there for the past 7 years. You can try shallower, I tend to get more of them between 30 and 50 ft

Don't know how you cannot catch a ling......maybe chum a bit with some squashed minnows and put a live one just 6 inches off bottom.mid size perch minoow

thet begin to bite as soon as it's almost dusk and I have got them non stop for hours till sick of it albeit they are smaller than used to be for most part....and that is in 80 fow
