Well closed the deal on a jake this morning at 7am. Bush was alive today and the bush across the road. Right from shooting time both bushes were nothing but gobbling. About 650 heard 3 shots across the road, my bet is a missed or wounded bird. 10 minute later what I thought was a Tom and hen come from the right in the field. He is full strut and dragging his wings, with hen beside him on my side. I'm 10yd in bush my hen decoy is 10 out in field with jake decoy another 10yds past hen decoy. He is heading straight for my jake decoy, but hen is on my side head to head with him. I give a yelp with my mouth call hen stops he doesn't, mistake.

I went on my first solo hunt Monday afternoon. I have shot a Tom last year and a Jake 2 years ago but that was with help. This year solo Monday afternoon with very low spirits from hunting all Saturday and Monday morning I dragged my but out to the field. This Tom came in silent and zero strut to my decoy. I took him 30 yards out just before I was going to lose sight of him behind a tree. He did a full back flip and barely flopped for 3 seconds. Good clean kill which I really always hope for. 9.5” beard 1” spurs.
