So with a less than stellar start to the season and a few days of miserable weather was anxious to get out again. Have put in quite a few long days trying to get something going but birds really weren't eager too play. That was until this morning. Got settled at 5:30 am to see what the day would bring. Wasn't long though until the ridge erupted in gobbles. Crips calm sunny sky had the birds active. Got swung around in the direction of the loudest gobble and tried my best to keep from shivering though I couldn't tell if it was from the cold or the anticipation of a bird in play. Didn't take long till he made his way down the ridge through the bush and popped out into the field at the fenceline I was on. He tried to strut but seemed in a hurry to make his way down the fence. Such that he was in my lap before I could get my gun on him. Actually had to wiggle my foot to get his attention to which he tried to exit stage left at a pretty quick pace. Let him stretch out to 25 yards before I pulled the trigger and rolled him head over heels.
at the shot on the blind side of the fence a troop of birds exploded into the air which was why he was on a mission.
On the way home seen quite a few toms and jakes in the field If you can out I think tomorrow will be golden.

With ramps still closed thinking of buying my second tag and go for one of the 6 jakes that was with him tomorrow.

Great post and great bird. There’s not many you can hang on a limb like that. Congrats.

Plan was to pickup where I left off yesterday, goal was simple pluck one of the jakes and call it and early day. Got settled quickly as a Tom was sounding off 20 minutes before legal. at sunrise a second bird joined the chorus. Wasn't long till the hens started to tree yelp and I could here 2 heavy thuds in the bush as the gobblers came down. Shorty the hens flew down into the center of the field in a 5 gathered in the field. Which had 2 jakes and 2 toms follow them out of the bush. Hens started to peck away and ended up 20 yards to my left. Although the toms wanted to head further down the field a little calling kept them leading to the right. Pretty much figured it was a done deal until 3 deer came thrashing down the ridge. A big doe walk by close enough to lick my boot. She stared straight at me not alarmed but not impressed with what she saw. She continued on and muck around the birds. The toms didn't like the attention and left for the bush. At the edge 2 gobbles and the hens followed. My easy morning and well laid plan busted. Listened to them mill away and figured they do the usual loop and I can eventually intercept them on the other side. Picked up and settled in for round two. Well all went silent birds and disappeared. Normally I have the patience to wait 'em out but today was finished by 1pm. Usually when I call it I case the gun for the pack out but today just threw it over the shoulder. Started the walk back got to the point where I cross the hay field back out but today figured would walk up the bush line and maybe through some calls back behind. As I got to the corner and fence line looked up ahead and ain't there the morning doe standing there looking at me. Was about to give her some words for ruining my hunt when a hen started to put put put away. Not far behind her saw the red, white, and blue of a tom. First was hey look there's the tom. Second thought was dumba** shoot it. dropped the gear shoulder the slinged gun put the bead on him and call it a season.

Good for you. Great report. It just goes to show with hunting. If you are always prepared and ready to go, opportunities present them selves. ( Some times when you expect it )
Another season in the books. Way to go
