I phoned this morning for an hour and a half straight until I finally got through only to find out the ten adult tags in our area were all gone. This has happened other years also .Is anyone else having any luck getting a surplus moose tag?

Started calling at 7AM sharp, made 150 dials only to find they were all out. Not the greatest system. I wonder if they answer certain area codes first...

One of our guys was able to get a surplus cow tag in our area!! We are going hunting! I was in pool 2 and applied for a cow tag and didn't get one, and they handed out 24 surplus cow tags in that same area. How does that work?

24 surplus cow tags WOW didn't think any area had that many tags all together in the last couple years. but really you did not get a tag in the draw and they still had surplus. unbelievable

newburg, that is strange. Guess you have to be on the phone at midnight or is it a set time like 8. Either way that is a pain. I also don't like printing my own tags, way to easy for people to cheat IMO.

Applied for a cow tag because I was in pool 2 and knew that there were surplus tags every year. As I said earlier I didn't get a tag and there was 24 surplus in 21A. Lucky that we got a surplus tag but begs the question if they had surplus than why didn't I get one? That will all change next year, I just hope it's for the better.

sabmgb: Surplus tags are given out over 3 days, with set calling hours (Monday starting at 7 am), etc. After the first day, you pretty much have to own your own float plane to access the hunting area -- WMU 01A, 01C, ......"You know the areas where the last human to step foot there were wearing animal skins!
bvan: Rumour has it that the changes are not likely to be in place until 2022. "Just a few bugs to work out in issuing tags. Oh ya! And how they'll be able to affort to do all this -- given they will have just killed a huge 'cash cow' in the present system!"

We had the same deal one year so my partner called asking how it’s possible there were surplus tags while he was unsuccessful in the regular draw. The answer he got was the tags in the surplus were from tithe Northern Resident draw which sets aside 4 or 5 percent of the tags for Northern residents. If there are any left over they go into the surplus draw. It would be worth a call though to make sure you didn’t get overlooked.

Thanks, I did call today and that's what they told me? My question to them was why aren't people that want tags in an area first served before people that didn't apply or want them in that area? All I got was that's the way it's done!! Last year I was also in pool 2 and put in my second choice for a cow bow tag in 21b and was successful in getting a tag which I didn't really want. ( my mistake ) Sure didn't work like that this year.
