YES. First off it is the law and it is the right thing to do. I have almost run others down because they are only using a flash light once and awhile to see exactly where they are. I have talked with some of these guys and they all say, we will flash the light at me" and I say how are you even going to know I'm coming over the noise of their motor. Personally I think the OPP should be out there giving them tickets. If you need more how about a personal story. I have a brother in law that killed a guy several years ago in the wee hours of the morning heading out hunting. He was going one way and the other going across. Neither had lights on and he cut right over the other guy.
So yes you should have lights on the jon boat, at the very least a high stern white light that can be seen from all angles.

Very unfortunate circumstance. On the water without anything on is pretty reckless. I have always had at least something high powered on scanning all directions, in case of that. I have had those portable lights by Atwood and although they illuminate making it legal they are useless.

Navigation lights, absolutely. Those ridiculous hard mounted LED lights the guys put at the front of their boats, absolutely not. All you need other than nav lights is a high quality portable spotlight and a headlamp for setup.

I do on mine, didn’t for a few years. Where I hunt there’s typically zero boat traffic during duck season. However I began to realize that I am 100% the smaller boat and didn’t want to take the risk any longer.

Good for you Team Rapo for now running with lights. you never know when someone else decides he should start hunting the same water. I have a big jon and it goes through rough water a lot faster than smaller ones. Funny when I talked to those other guys they also said I shouldn't be going so fast. I certainly wasn't going anywhere near the speed I could have been going, but for my big boat I need to go faster to keep on plane.
