A couple of weeks ago, Loblaws had whole beef briskets on sale at $2.99 lb. When I went to get one they were all out, so I got a rain check and went back today.

I picked up an 11lb brisket today at the $2.99 price. The regular price would have been $95.00, but I got it for $33.00.

I've never smoked a brisket before and I have been looking in various books and in various web-sites for recipes/guidance.

Has anyone out there got a good recipe or tips/hints they can share?

Thanks

SDC

SDC check out YouTube as there is a bunch of videos there that should get you primed and started. It looks like a lot of work but it will be worth in in the end. An all day project for sure usually accompanied by beer on the deck - lol..

Taking the Wife out to a local smokehouse tonight for smoked brisket.

Good luck and send some pics of the finished product.

Cheers.

Ralph I tried it once, first and last time, my son got in on that deal, I think he is following a tregar recipe and inviting us. Americans love them, but mine was from a grass fed cow and was as tough as shoe leather. Let me know how it worked out and maybe I'll try it again.

I am by no means an expert on this, however I have done it a few times with positive reviews from my guinea pigs (family).. I kept the dry rub simple with pepper and kosher salt (i rubbed the brisket the night before).
Cooking specs Roughly hour and a quarter per pound at 225F. I read a tip to start the brisket uncovered with fat side down until brisket hits internal temp of roughly 160F. Take brisket out and wrap it in tin foil and put it back on until it reaches 205F internally. While I’m sure there are more exciting recipes, I’m always happy with how they turn out as far as texture, moisture level and taste goes. Hope this helps.

I have never tried smoking one, but really enjoy eating them. I have had coworkers smoke them and give me some. Simply amazing. So me sure to let us know how it goes Ralph.

Brisket is now in the smoker.

I'll start a new thread this evening with details and pictures--step by step.
