When I’m scouting for new lakes and access. Like others have mentioned Fish-online and google satellite view. One thing that’s exceptional is an app called ihunter. It’s map options allow you to select from multiple different satellite maps, (google vs Apple, arcgis) it also allowed you to overlay the OFSC trails that can often run closer than any road to “back lakes”.
Another thing is this app is excellent because you can download the satellite map data to your phone so if you are in areas where you don’t have cell reception you’ll still be able to see yourself thanks to gps and where you are on the map. Exceptionally useful tool.

Thank you for clarifying that. Makes sense most of the at capacity are rocky shield type lakes with low nutrient counts and clean water. Nothing to do with fish population...

thanks, I don't have a sled, I have an ATV, and I don't think you can take it on the ofsc trails for ice fishing.

One of the other threads here touched on access thru ofsc trails for the purpose of fishing. If direct route is only an ofsc trail (on public land) to a lake, then it is OK to take your atv and go ice fishing. It is OK if it is the only access.
