Just curious if there is any knowledge on the ice thickness of Lake Joseph. Was thinking about taking the drive in the morning but its 2 hours away so maybe someone can tell me weather or not its worth the trip.

Thanks Everyone

I'm assuming that you know that Lakers don't open until Family Day weekend.
The other big lakes in the area have access onto the more sheltered bays, but the main lake is still questionable.

Lol you usually need a sled on that lake in a year like this and even then I’ve had times I can’t even stop and have to break a trail just to park on it. Then you fish in 6” of water on top of the ice below all the snow/slush and watch all the atvs struggle like hell to pull each other out! At least if the fish aren’t biting you have something to watch! Fun fighting fish below and on top of the ice though! Then there’s the current in narrow spots and dock bubblers. Not a lake for a relaxing time per say! Stay away from the deep basins too, 300ft of water never seems to freeze well.

I love this description.
It's Bang on.

So, to whom it may concern..... the lake froze evenly with the lack of snow BUT as usual that vision of perfect conditions dwindled this past week.
As usual, the week before opener, the area gets blasted.
This past weekend, a whopping two feet of powdered snow has landed ontop of the ice with more than another foot predicted to fall this week.
If you think it's worth all the effort to walk out for two dinky lakers , then by all means, go for it.

in my 50 years of fishing this lake, I must say the description given above will be reality this coming weekend.

Good luck out there boys.
Bring snowshoes if your walking.
Bring a buddy if you using and ATV or a snowmobile.

That slush is going to be brutal.

I also agree its bang on. I was on Skeleton with the snowmobile on Sunday man it's crazy with all this snow, good luck to those walking out may not get too far, and as mentioned above play safe, inconsistent ice al over.

I like the suggestions going towards snowshoeing your way out. Lots of snow around the Muskoka areas at the moment. To those with snowmobiles enjoy and be careful!

I will be walking out Saturday morning with the spud and auger before I bring the sled out just to ensure the trail is good. Ive been told sleds are running the lake. Would like to drag the wife and kids out if its permitting. They usually out fish me anyways.

Sleds run the lake on the main snowmobile trail even if it’s not open, which runs down most of the lake from north to south, but some years you don’t dare go off that trail, I’ve seen it so bad they winch atvs towing huts back to the trail on purpose knowing that was the best way to get them on and off the ice! I agree sometimes you occupy yourself with other things and let the others catch the fish and then get to join in the fun after they hook one, just as happy seeing fish caught as catching myself!
