I got out on Sturgeon today for my last trip of the season I think and finally managed to land a muskie 40"+. I was trolling a bulldog lure in black/gold/white colour at 2 mph going into the wind. I was outside the weeds in about 23 ft and this one bit around 9am. There was about a 6" chop and I only saw one other boat out but with the sun out, it was comfortable. I've been out about 6 times this year and have only had a couple of swipes close to the boat in shallow water over the tops of the weeds. It has been a long time between muskies on Sturgeon for me. My first (30") when I was a teenager in the mid 70's and the last one about seven years ago (36") which I didn't land. So at least they keep getting bigger but hopefully it won't be so long before the next one comes along. Anyways I was able to get it upto the boat quick but had to grab her to get the hook out after she rolled a couple of times in the line. The hook came out easy and there was no bleeding and she had no problem taking off. That was the most satisfying part of the short day on the water 7:30-10:00am. Crapeeman called it in one of his posts this week about the muskies being out this weekend. Special thanks to all the men and women who gave their lives for freedom so we could live out our dreams and passions.
