Fished for walleye and pike yesterday (not Kawartha)
The air temps were 1-4C and quite a chilly NW wind but water temps were 10-11C .
Caught quite a few pikes and bass in the pm on jerkbaits in weedbeds but spent most of the time searching for walleye. Could not find any walleye during daytime hours but was able to find a few schools of perch in 12-13 FOW and marked those spots on my fishfinder to come back later.
It’s not the first time that walleye-perch connection worked in lakes where I fish as perch being one of the main forage for walleye. It definitely worked this time as I was able to catch a couple of nice walleyes in an hour after sunset in the area where I marked perch schools earlier.
The walleyes were angry after sunset and hit my jerkbaits pretty hard.
All in all it was worth being out in the cold but I came dressed up appropriately wearing my winter bibs, boots and jacket, enjoying breathing the cold crispy air and beautiful fall scenery.
Need to work on my night fishing endurance making myself stay longer into the night.
Still plenty of fishing time left in the open water season.
The fall scenery...
