Good afternoon Folks
It was a long time coming, however managed to find 4-5 inches of good solid ice at one of my favourite fishing grounds. Have been targeting Lake Trout these past two weeks albeit for a very short period due to degradation of shoreline access and ice condition. A few brave souls went through the ice at the shoreline yesterday and bubbles are appearing in the ice pack. The action was fast and furious with my PB day of 9 quality fish iced last Wednesday. Missed hooksets were too many to count. Invited a Buddy up on Monday to experience this prolific fishery. He used minnows and myself plastics. Together we iced 7 lakers in 1.5 hours but had to cut the trip short around 10:45 as I hooked my thumb into a vibrato. I tend to catch everything but fish with those dang lures. Lol. Anyhow, long story short, cut the hook to release myself from the lure, packed up and headed to the local hospital to have the hook removed. That was an experience..... The great staff there had me good to go in 1.5 hours. Ever have a long needle stuck into your thumb to apply local freezing? That smarted a little. Didn't feel the hook being pushed  through by the Doctor though. Anyhow, went out yesterday for definitely my last outing. Iced six lakers on plastic minnows. 50% of our fish came out on high hooks tipped with live or pearl white plastic minnows. I've included a highlight reel of our trip out Monday if interested. Enjoy!

Thanks. Because of the short season, I was even contemplating going out today. The ice was in terrible condition when I came off yesterday. Lost ice thickness while we were out. I was one of the few who went through at the shoreline. Definitely not recommended. Stay safe folks.

Thanks. Believe it or not, once the Doctor pushed the hook through, there was no further pain and In fact very little evidence that there was even a hook in my thumb. Right back at er the next morning icing six more quality lakers.

Good for you....I guess it hurt me more to look at than the actual feeling you had.

I use the woods e-drill auger with the Milwaukee brushless hammer drill and clam adapter. The augers sharp center point blade holds the auger in place while the steel ring guide around the blades forms the perfect hole. We simply overlap the holes when drilling. As you alluded, you can also use a spud to enlargen the hole afterwards if desired.
