Last year I trolled the mouth in 20-30 FOW mid May and speaking with a guy at the launch I was a little late. When do people start trolling the mouth of the Notty? ASAP? I caught a laker and a salmon, so I am thinking with the water so cold there is a mixed bag swimming around. Thoughts?

Start now! A few days after the first big rain of the spring and above zero temps that's when the fishing begins and chances of hooking up dramatically increase as temps and water warms up. Last year i believe fishing peaked end of April. Salmon will hang at the mouth all spring and summer. Most guys will fish the outflow coming from the Notty, mostly fishing colored water however those salmon have to come from somewhere. That being said if they are not in that dirty water near the mouth then start venturing offshore to 40, 50, 60, 70, 80fow even if surface temps could be in the 30's, watch your graph for Bait or hooks. if you mark them but they are not hitting start changing lures and don't forget your meat strips at home Sorry I think I answered more than you asked hahaha.

When I drove by last weekend I went to sturgen point marina and looked towards the mouth and was able to see waves breaking right across the mouth that may indicate that the channel is closed up and shallow. We never got the big winter blow out like the past. Have they ever dregged this area before
