Took my buddy out for his first ever turkey hunt. No gobbles unfortunately but had a hen sneak up on us and walk right up, very cool seeing those birds so up close. Got busted by a few more hens that were heading to the field as we got up the leave.
Gonna take another stab at it tomorrow morning in a different field.

Well I busted a bird walking in, it flew out into the field but I was going to hunt the other side of bush. Set up no gobbles at all, about 630 I hear clucking from the field behind a brush pile. I finally see the bird it 200yds out to my 2 o'clock, big tom. I give a quiet call it turns and starts heading my way not rushing but on a string stopping to strutt now and then. I have gun up and on bird as it getting closer. At 100yds it turns and comes across of me. It gets to about 12 o'clock and turns my way then stops. I catch out of the corner of my eye movement it is another tom and 2 hens about 11 o'clock and a good 200yds. The one I been watching can't decide which way to go, takes a step towards me they a step towards them. Finally the real birds win and he goes their way and they all walk straight away from me across the field, both toms strutting as they go to the next field over never to be seen again. I gave them another 2 hours to come back but no go.

Morning was good but not good. Busted a hen from her roost on the way in at 5:15am but the other turkey stayed on the roost as we very silently walked 150 yards past. About 6:20am there were gobbles from every direction and very loud gobbles from the turkey we passed that stayed on the roost. Had birds right behind us as well. Watched the lone Tom fly down away from us but I managed to call him in from just over 100 yards. Took close to 40 minutes to get him into the decoys. He was very cautious but did come in. Got him within 8 yards and my hunting partner had first shot, first time hunting, and he missed under the Tom with his bow. I was calling so was not set up to draw my bow so we watched him walk around for 10 minutes before vanishing off into the woods. Had a lone hen come visit shortly after and hung out in the decoys for 20 minutes before also heading off into the woods again. Around 8:45 a group pop out of the woods about 50 yards to the east. 2 Toms and 3 hens. They were looking at the decoys and started towards them but then a big doe came out and stomped and snorted a few times right in front of the turkeys. That changed their direction and they started moving north east and sat roughly 70 yards from us. That is where they stayed for the next 40 minutes until they slowly walked across the field to the north where I shed a tear as the two lovely Toms vanished from site. Can't wait to get back out.

Heard a bit of gobbling but not a lot. Little bit of snow on the ground so I think they didn't want to get their feet cold. I noticed there had been a lot of scratching in the hardwoods. Give it a try when it warms up this morning. Cheers

Had a good opener for a change. Good day to be afield. My day started setting up at 5:20 next to a swamp where I have one of my treestands. Sat down at the base of a huge white pine, readied my gear and waited. 15 minutes later, gobble from tree across the small swamp. Scanned the tree tops w/binos and spotted the big Tom. Sat on roost gobbling for the next half hour, then I watch 3 hens fly down,which I didn’t see in the trees. I started calling softly but to no avail to get those hens to come my way. Tom still on roost gobbling constantly, 10 minutes later he flies down, only in pursuit of the hens which disappeared over a ridge. Hunt over! Couldn’t draw him back my way…. Gobbles faded into the distance. Packed up, off to another spot where I have a ground blind setup. In blind at 9:10 , all is quiet, make a few loud calls and nothing. 15 minutes later,make a few more calls and I get a response! Make a couple softer calls and here they come through the pines. 4 Toms !! Come marching right in on the decoys set in a small field next to the pines, pick out the biggest, 20 yd. shot, my hunt is over for the day.. Fun morning, lots of action….. Hope everyone has a good hunting experience as I was blessed to have!

Cold morning, -1. I heard one Tom Gobbling a long way off. Nothing near me but hung around for a few hours.
I seen him on my way out in the distance, hopefully see him on Saturday, closer.
Went out for a few leaks & took my gear for Turkeys. Dig & call, dig some more and call. After about 2-30 minutes, I was near a Corn Field by my Tree Stand and made a quick call & wham, Tommy answered immediately.
He busted me quickly in the edge of the Field. He had heard me call but not answer until i was too close to hi,, oh well, next time, lol

Day 2 and my season goal is fulfilled.
This year was not about me getting a bird. My daughters boyfriend of five years has been getting into hunting, and I have been tutoring him. My entire season goal was to get him a bird.
Our hunt this morning started off a touch Rocky. Unfortunately he was late. I talk to him and I went in and set up the decoys. I made sure he was well covered when walking in and talked him through it as he really didn’t know what to do. Thankfully there was frost on everything and I knew the birds would be in the trees longer. When he finally got to the blind 10 minutes after legal shooting light we heard our first gobble from a group my daughters boyfriend had watched and roosted the night before. There were two gobblers, and six hens. We were set up about 150-200 yards away on the edge of the bush. The gobblers were super vocal and called for an hour before they drop down with the hens. They went into a field behind us 100 yards out and started strutting. I got in a great argument with the hens and they started moving steadily towards us. Thank God we were in a blind, as they were approaching directly behind us the entire way. The lead hen made a fairly steady march only pausing once. She went back about 5 yards but all the other turkeys who were still on a steady march. She joined back in the pack and continued walking. The Toms dragged behind. I was so proud that my hunting buddy didn’t make a sound or a wiggle. We could’ve been busted so easy. They passed within 10 yards of our left side with brush between us. There was no shot through the brush. Good news was they were still coming to our decoys out front. The Hens came in first and walked around and check things out. The two toms came in a little more hesitant. We had them at 15 yards. I whispered to my hunting buddy, ” shoot him”. He was frozen stiff 😂. I think I told him about six times in a row “shoot him”. Finally, he whispered back ”now?” I said “ yes now”. He squeezed off of perfect round. The shot was so good the wad hit the turkey in the head either still closed or barely open open.
