This morning was a fantastic hunt. Tom’s gobbling all around me. They all headed to a field and got in a massive fight right in front of me. Five Tom’s all pounding on each other constantly.
They didn’t want to take much interest in calls at all so I went silent.
When they finally calmed down they were 150 yards out. I let a call rip really loud. It got their attention. After a couple of follow up soft calls they all started to saunter towards me.
The group made it to 80 yards and kind of slowed up. I was quietly purring occasionally and out of the corner of my eye I caught movement along the edge of the bush. A nice Tom popped out and took me by surprise. He was in a bit of a hollow and couldn’t see my decoys yet. He took two steps and froze solid when he saw my half strut Jake and hen decoys. He then went full strut for a second then folded up and came at my decoys hard. I stopped him short at 15 yards from me with a solid jelly head shot.
What a show.
