Trying for 1st Laker. Fish out of Oak Bay marina. Scouting but not seeing anything on fish finder…any tips on depths or locations right now would be appreciated. Tried gin rocks and got a whitefish in 35fow on a spoon. Suspect Lakers are shallower than that right now? Thx.

Fish are where the bait is in this case cisco... I'd be fishing deep flats or sharp drops in 50-100ft. Shouldn't hard to mark them when you're over them.

Thank you Bill. Have you had any luck off of Gin Rocks or should I move over to Beckwith/Christian/Hope Islands areas? Can be tough to get there in spring winds…and I would like to find lakers sooner than later…newbies!

think you need to move away from gin rocks area , can be good late july and august for salmon but i have fished there enough and never caught a laker though i dont target them in that area. move towards the tomb and fish the humps around there for lakers or further west towards the islands.

Yup, heard north of Gin Rocks and get into the hole and see what's swimming around. Great spot after a good west blow for a few days.
