In the process of upgrading my 20 year old 16ft Lund to a newer fishing boat. My boat has served me well and is still in fantastic condition. It is a deep v aluminum with raised bottom, 4 pedestal seats and a tiller motor. I have bounced of rocks and shoals on numerous lakes with only minor scratches to show. However, i want something newer, larger, walk through winshield with at least 150 horses on the back. A real fishing machine with all the electronics that make fishing more intersting, along with the ability to use it for tubing or just cruising with friends on Georgian Bay.
I was pretty confident on the purcahse of the 1875 Lund Impact aluminum until i was introduced to a 19 ft Nitro Zv Fibreglass beauty with a 225 Pro XS. Great looking fisihng machine all decked out in metallic flake resin in numerous eye catching colors. More expensive than the Lund, i still can't shake it from my mind.

Any thoughts on the Aluminum Vs. Fibreglass debate from the forum members would be greatly appreciated. I've been told the Nitro would be more stable on choppy days, more costly to repair if hit hard enough to crack, but also better for resale if i wanted a change. Do i stay with the vurtually indestructible aluminum hull or should i stop worrying and order a Nitro ZV and just try to be more careful around GB?

If you fish predominantly in GB, for 'peace of mind' I would choose the Lund boat.
There is no such thing as 'just scrapes' with fiberglass.
Good luck with your quest.

Hi there. I don’t own either of these brands. That being said , I don’t believe these boats are comparable. Not fiberglass vs aluminum just the two brands. I did a lot of research before i purchased my aluminum boat and Nitro was no where near the top.

As the others have said and I'll add that shiny things like lures and boats can "capture" prospective buyers. Put a scrape in an aluminum and it's oh heck or equivalent. Put a scrape in a fibreglass one there isn't enough "blasphemy" to express the thoughts.

Agree with our friends comments, and on the Bay as you know bigger can be safer, i went to 20ft Legend with deep gunnels and transom for that reason no regrets if you can.

I hope this isn’t too late, I’ve ridden in the impact. It’s not a big water boat. It will get through rough stuff, but it’s a terrible and wet ride. I’d look at a Starcraft with 19 degree dead rise if your primarily fishing bigger water and wanting aluminum. Either that or bite the bullet and look at a Lund pro V, which will ride better in rough water. The impact is kind of a kawartha rough water boat whereas the deep V StarCraft’s, or the Pro V hull is more of a big water rough day kind of hull. I’ve ridden all three boats in dirty water and the impact is the worst performer with the roughest ride! The Starcraft is tops, followed by ProV not too far behind (wetter ride).

I worked at BPS for a couple of years. I can’t speak for the latest Nitro boats but back then the quality was garbage. They still do not have a good reputation for reliability.

Fiberglass is faster and they can build contours into the hull to make them ride amazing but as for durability nothing beats Aluminum. A good Aluminum hull will be around longer than most of us will be alive.
For Aluminum check out PrinceCraft as well. Amazing hulls and the only manufacturer all built in Canada. They also hold their value as good as any boat. 👍🏻. I guided out of a 179 pro long ago and it was a super dry ride.
