Tagged out this morning on a Stud of a Tom. The hunt started off absolutely crazy this morning. I had four gobblers in different areas, setting each other off on the roost. I think a couple of hens came down and suddenly I heard something rushing in, and a coyote started barking, yelping and howling like crazy. The coyote stayed and made a ton of noise and never stop barking or howling for 20 minutes. This caused all the birds to go absolutely silent. Even though the birds were just a short ways off, I couldn’t see them. I was worried the coyote spooked them completely, and they were gone from the area. My only hope was they had not flow down yet. I was fairly sure the gobblers hadn’t come out of the trees yet. I had hoped they stayed completely silent and just stayed in the trees. I waited for over a half an hour without a sound. I made a couple of very very light calls. I got an answer back with a gobbler still on the tree. This gobbler sounded very mature and had that deep gravel, but still sounded like an old man gargling mouthwash. 😂 I knew this old bird was around. I’ve heard him before. I went quiet for a while and turned my head to look backwards and they were two Toms in a field behind me. They were on a steady, slow walk across the field right to my position. The biggest one had a limp. I callled lightly once and they both froze. Since that didn’t go over well I went silent again. Took them five minutes to move again. Luckily they were still walking at me. They have to cross past some big boulders and brush where I can’t see them. When they got just obstructed by a big boulder, they must’ve froze. I waited for 10 minutes and I never caught sight of them again for to long. I glanced to my right to see if they gotten past me. When I looked back the biggest Tom moved through an opening, and I caught a glimpse of him. He stopped again, concealed by another boulder. I waited 10 more minutes and he wouldn’t come into my spread, and I wasn’t even sure if he was there anymore. Eventually, he started walking away the way he had come in and I saw him again. This time I had an opening. He froze again and it was good night.

very nice bird and great story. I'm having problems this year even seeing a shootable bird. I have even tried going later in the morning. I haven't heard a gobble all season. Thinking it time to give up turkey hunting and just fish, will finish this season off and think about next year.
