Moose Tags, Moose Tag Allocation

Is everyone happy with the current Tag Allocation Process? We Hunt up in 19 & 21A and can't wait to get up there every year.

Guy we Hunt with up there had 2 Points and received a Cow Tag & was totally amazed. His Wife had 7 Points and once again, this year, received nothing.

Typically, it takes us 5-6 years to get a Tag. I know other guys who need 24 Points + to get a Tag where they Hunt.

Most people do not have many 24+ years in a life time to get a Moose Tag? We chose 19 & 21A because it is a little easier to get a Tag but still have to wait 5-7 years t get a Tag.

Thoughts? Is the System fair?

Moose hunting has changed a lot in the past 40 years. There seems to be more demand than supply in certain areas. I think the problem for moose is hunters are hunting with ATV's & other off road vehicles. I know hunters who put 50 kms a day going from swamp to swamp. When I started moose hunting I was warned not to shoot one too far in the bush by the old guys. Now we shoot them pretty well anywhere & have fun getting the bikes in to pull them out. I think the MNR is on the right track as I am seeing more moose in 57 & 28.

I also hunt 21a and have not seen a tag in my name for 5 plus years and we bow hunt only

In many units it is easier to draw a cow tag on the first allocation because most people want a bull tag .
With the previous system you didn’t know it was going to take 24 years 😁.

I hunt in 21A as well. I have 4 points but didn't get lucky in first draw. Hopefully second draw.
My Buddy was awarded a bull tag 2 years ago and we filled it. Last year nobody hunted.

In the area I hunt last year 24 points for a bull and 19 for a cow. We had a bull tag and filled it. This year so far 1 calf tag. Not sure if I like the points system. The Mnr has added a few more tags in my area. Last year our group saw 16 moose in the 3 locations we hunted. Lots of moose around but limited tags. Good luck in round two
