Well I have been fishing Georgian Bay for a lot of years out of Waubaushene, for about 25 years now. I do a lot of trolling mostly for Pike, Bass, Muskie and sometimes Salmon. The odd time in doing this I have picked up a dink Perch usually the size of my lure. Now, last year I caught. a Jumbo Perch and was amazed because I had never caught one in Georgian Bay. Passing it off as an unusual occurrence. Fast forward to this past Saturday I caught another one. So Sunday morning because I love to eat Perch I decided to target them. Used a Pickerel rig tipped with worm and drift fished with it. Damn I caught three more......Hmmmm where there is three there are more. Anyone else catching these in the Bay......I know I will be honing my technique to get some more of the delicious lil critters.

I was also surprised at the size of perch while pulling a worm harness. This year I’ve caught perch upwards of 11”. I couldn’t believe it either.

On the west side, a few smaller perch are caught when ice fishing. But few and small.

I see the Eco-worthy lithium battery and was curious their quality. I start a separate post so not to hijack this topic.

I hope you find where those big perch are hiding and catch many more.

Thx for the replies...I am also thinking that now there is a hunt on the cormorants and the population is down greatly....Jumbos have a chance to survive.....whatever it is....I like it.

It’s the circle of life lol. It would be great to see the east side of the bay come back to the way it was long ago. The salmon did.

Growing up some 30 years ago we had a wicked Perch and rock bass fishery south of Cedar Point. Last year a few rock bass showed up again, we even had some small largemouth too.
Downrigging near Thunderbeach a few years ago I caught a 14" perch. Sure would be nice seeing these fish come back. I have a hunch Thunder beach might have a population of perch. might have to try this summer
