I've been on the fence about shelling out for a lithium battery to separately run my electronics (not likely large enough to run downriggers as well). Any reviews from other members that have done the same and the battery used would be appreciated.

can't really help with you question, just want to pass on what I was told by local battery store when I looked into purchasing lithium for my trolling motor.

they warned me that not all lithium are made equal. have to make sure the cells are in parallel not series. the cheaper ones are in series so like the old chrismass lights, if one fails they all go dead. I my case the price for 2 went from 1200 for 2 in series to 2200 for parallel. That was too much for me. So if one cell dies in the good batteries you still have like 90% usage, opposed to one cell dies an you have another boat anchor.

so I would do your research.

I use a 30 AH for my electronics and I use two 100 AH in the Kayak/14 ft Tinny.

I can only say that the 30 AH ran my Helix 10 for three trips which would be about 10 to 12 hours. The Helix 10 draws a fair bit though....I believe about 2.7 amps. I hope to get the tinny rigged with the 100 AH soon and they will power the trolling motor, an Ulterra. Unfortunately the Kayak will forego some weight shifting to be able to use the Ulterra on it.

I am pleased with the 30AH for my electronics.

It's all quiet here as the house sleeps and someone has left me alone with a computer and the ol' Inner-Web..... So, no longer on the fence.

Too many benefits to running a second battery that's lithium (weight, performance, warranty, etc.). A good deep cycle marine battery from CTC is close in price, weighs 6x more, and a warranty of 1/10th -- not to mention the performance differences.

I'm hoping a membership and a few meetings at "Lure-olics Anonymous" will like cover the cost in short order.

Thanks for the replies/input.

Theres LiFePO4 batteries and NMC batteries which hold more charge and are even less weight but come with a bunch of warnings. Anybody has experience with these?

All guys are using these days are LiFePO4. Watch a few Will Prowse vids on Youtube, you'll learn all you need to know about lithium batteries. You should be able to get into a 12V 100aH LiFePO4 for around $300US each.

From what I read, the LiFePo4 is the safer lithium battery; doesn't overheat (fire) as other type can. Also, LiFePo4 has a longer life cycle and better suited to quick recharging.

For sure there is alot of information on each type and their uses online (vs NMC).

Lithium is good but dangerous...if it catches fire water dont put it out but make it worst...just check out lithium fires on you tube.

Hi Longshank. For the two 20's did you get 2 chargers, or charge them one, then the other?
I am looking for options for the winter with AT2 and HDS9.

They each came with individual wall chargers and they work just fine..green light when done

when I have them on my boat. I use a 340 Noco charger set on lithium mode

The other thing you have to watch out for with these lithium batteries is their warranties. Some lithium batteries are advertised for outdoor use like fishfinders and kayaks and boats. Yet those exact same companies have no warranty against water damage and are not certified as water proof. Dakota lithium is very popular yet this very brand is advertised for outdoor use and has no warranty against water damage. They are not even IP7 rated.

X2 on the NOKO I use a three terminal 10 amp each NOCO. Love it. Not cheap but the best that I researched.

Arnie.. I started with 1 noco genious about 12 years ago.......nono 100 and it is still working perfectly

then I got the 340 that I used on my big boat for my 2 starting batteries

now we have the noca battery booster/charger as well and 1 more 100 series
