Thought I would try and get a couple walleye before I went home. It was the same as yesterday. Too big or too small. Then nothing from 10pm until now because this muskie showed up at 10pm. I tried everything for a few more hours but no more fish. I have caught many muskie in the dark. But it was quite the rush catching this one in the dark. It flew out of the water 4 times. I thought it would be bigger than 30 inches. Maybe it was just showing off. This was the most beautiful muskie I have ever caught. Not a mark on it for such a thick fish. Going to sleep now. Stay safe all.

Beautiful muskie, CM!
The water is warm now and the fish is fighting very hard.
I was fishing recently with my two buddies and we were catching walleyes and largies (accidentally) around rocky drop off when I hooked a fish which was pulling my line like crazy and shaking it's head constantly.
We were sure I hooked a good size largie but to our surprise it was only a 2 lb walleye that was giving such a fight.

That is a beautiful specimen CM. Those are some big walleye you have been getting, good problem to have. So far 22” is my largest
It was a strange one night adventure that turned into two nights. I was searching for big crappie and caught small crappie. Searching for medium size walleye and caught big walleye. Not searching for muskie at all, and there it was. You just never know what is going to happen fishing today or tomorrow. Just be happy when you get a chance to fish....... On a very sad note, I stopped at a friends place to say hello before fishing on Tuesday. There is a senior I have been fishing with for a long time now. Walking down to meet him at his cottage dock I would always say, how is the fishing. His response was always the same. "No fish, Fishing is terrible.' He did not care if the fishing was good or bad, he just loved to fish. So talking with my friend I asked if he had seen the old fisherman. He informed me that he had passed away a couple of weeks ago. My heart sunk into my stomach. Who am I going to sit with, and visit with, and fish with for a while as the sun goes down on the lake. I will always remember him packing up his chair and gear at sunset and heading back to the cottage. His last words every night were always. "Okay Jamie...Good luck...See you tomorrow." I will miss him.

Sad but very nice to have spent the time with him. I had the privilege of fishing with a few older gentlemen about 3 weeks ago, one is a neighbour at the campground and one was visiting him from England. I took them both out for a fishing adventure in the boat. My goal was to get them on some panfish, enough so i could clean the fish and they could have dinner. We managed to get some nice bluegill and one of them caught a 14” crappie. I explained that that was a great size crappie. They were both so happy and so was i. We managed enough for them to have for dinner. They watched as i cleaned there catch and they loved the dinner and still talk about the adventure. He said it was the highlight of his trip.

If my grandfather was still alive he would be over 100 now. He told me to respect my parents which I was not very good at many times. He told me to listen to the old people because..... "They know a thing or two." I always honoured that request. It did not matter what he was teaching me. It seemed he finished every story with the phrase......"That's the main thing." I did not come to realize what he meant way back in the day. But I know what it means now.

Back to muskie fishing. For all you anglers that like to catch muskie on the open water during the afternoon in the sun. You only have two maybe three weeks left before the muskie in the Kawartha lakes head for deeper water. You can still find them cruising in the early morning and late evening in the shallows looking for perch and smaller walleye all summer. It is just harder to get them to chase in the afternoon heat during July and August. During the day the muskie sit right at the deep side of the weed line waiting for and easy meal to swim right in front of them.

Oh - that's where they are... Now to convince them to bite - I am still in a musky slump. Thanks for the info - everything helps.
You would have to ask someone like Chad for better locations, and his best muskie lures. He catches way more muskie than I do. I just got lucky to catch that pretty one.
