Full disclosure I am from out west (Vancouver), however I have been coming to the Kawartha's for 40 years and have seen it way, way worse as far as it being dry! It's all green out there, water levels are some of the highest I have seen in years. Even if you wanted to light a forest on fire you would be hard pressed to do this as we have had 5 or 6 days of wet weather up here. Our resources have been cut and are stretched too thin - it's a joke and Turdeau's liberals are to blame and the fire ban will continue throughout the summer! Enjoy a "fire-less" Canada Day and let's get him out of office and kick him on the a$$ on his way out!
cheers,
hookum

Forests burn even when they are wet. The fire ban is there to prevent more forest fires. We already have enough fires. We already have enough smoke. We don't need any more fires. We don't need any more smoke. The family house is near Sturgeon and Balsam. I can't even burn my fish carcasses which sucks. But I can wait until the fire ban is over. Or leave a small scrap for this guy in the forest. Just kidding....Don't feed the bears....or the other animals. Put your garbage in the garbage where it belongs.

Last Sunday North Bay Ontario hit #2 on an air quality index for the worst polluted city in the world. Not something to be proud of for sure. We could not even make out the outline of an island a kilometer away.

Here is a web site that forecasts what the smoke will do over the next couple days.

Lifting the fire ban is just my opinion. I've been here now for almost 2 weeks and I've seen more rain in two weeks then I have seen in the entire month of May and June in B.C? As well, I find it quite contradictory while a fire ban is on they are still selling fireworks at a couple of places down the street! Anyway Enjoy Canada Day and good luck fishin!
cheers,

Local fire chief in area south of north bay says will be in place all summer. The issue is that if a fire starts in a populated area, ie. Kawartha or Muskoka there will be no resources to battle it. The local guy said he doesn't even have a full roster of volunteers for regular duty, so if there was a forest fire they would have little ability to react.

On a side note I did fight fire 25 years ago in a major fire flap out of wawa and thunderbay. The fire will burn underground in stumps for weeks, months or years. If we get favorable weather in northern Ontario you can have a fire on Thanksgiving.

Way she goes, live the fear of losing everything and it gives a different perspective.

Certainly understand our resources are stretched to the limit - hence the ban!! Hopefully all the fireworks tonight won't cause any havoc! Enjoy!

I found this article from CNN pretty informative.

https://www.cnn.com/2023/07/01/us/canada-wi...lity/index.html

Also in the township I live in fireworks are also banned. The township funded Canada Day fireworks have been postponed till a later date.

I did see where the maximum fine for violating the MNRF fire ban is $25,000 and 3 months in jail.

Maybe the smoke will ease up some and we can see the northern lights tonight instead of camp fires or fireworks.

Sorry no fishing pictures. No dock, boat high and dry, and really bad hips. Maybe next year.
