Just come back from 2 nights camping in the prov. park.
Fished a couple of hours only on Friday evening out of the park along a weed line with no luck. Too strong South wind did not let me try other areas. Rain and wind yesterday. Decided I better sleep as well this morning. Should have left the boat at home.

First time ever on Balsam for me during daytime visit in late June, seems worthy of additional investigation. Caught a smalley and pike but was also disappointed in finding only sparse cabbage weed (my favorite weed to fish). Where around Balsam landmarks (location not bottom features) are the thickest cabbage weed concentrations typically found?

Fish the humps and you will find the cabbage. Fish the areas where water current creates the environment for good healthy weed growth. (NO SLIME)......Fish the shallow areas with deeper drop-offs. I just came back from fishing Balsam, Sunday evening and night, and we caught many Walleye, Crappie and Bass. The weeds were slower growing this year, but they are there now. Water levels are on the average higher this year so the fish have spread out more during the day. Early morning or late evening and into the night is the best times right now. Temperatures are going to be reasonable the next two weeks with no blazing hot days. Perfect time to get out fishing. Find those humps and drop-off long trenches and you will find the weeds, and the fish.
