Interested to know the colour preferences regarding colour and size of spinners and spoons for river run steelhead. My preference Spoons 1/3 oz bronze and red or orange. silver and chartrues. Spinners; #4 bronze, orange, white. Trying to increase strike ratio's. Whats your favorites, hardware fishing in rivers and streams challenging yet rewarding !!

I have been using a 1/2 oz brass and orange Len Thompson spoon or a2/5 gold and maroon Lil Cleo. I’ve used both for the last ten years and they each have their days. I buy 50 Len Thompson at a time and they last about three years. The Cleo’s are a little expensive because you do go through them but they catch fish.
My buddy bought some bulk spoons and tape and made up several different ones at a buck and change each. His favourite was a chrome with pink tape about 3/8 of an ounce.
The weight of spoon depends on the size of river and the flow rate. If the lure is too heavy you snag. If it is too light you don’t get near bottom on bigger rivers and are out of their strike zone.
I also prefer more visibility than when I was bottom bouncing. I like two to three feet after it has been dirty. When it gets really clear I like rapalas rigged the way Jesse explained.
Some days they really hammer it and some days you just feel weight.
A skunk quick fish with weight ahead of it in deeper sections works well too. Steelhead will hit those with a vengeance.I almost lost my favourite steelhead rod once when I wasn’t paying attention.
