So…..what are some strategies for fishing tomorrow after this monster cold front brought us late September weather in mid-August ?

Gonna try Chemong….

You are probably gone already, so I hope you stayed on the west side out of the wind. And maybe you had some luck with fishing slow for walleye on the windy side of the boat. On a day like today I put the boat right on the wind break line and cast or jig or troll. Where the water goes from flat to ripples to waves is where the fish hide. A belated good luck to you.

Great points! I fished Saturday (not in the Kawarthas), and slow presentation was key. I had a couple of blow ups on the popper, but they kept missing, so we went with soft plastics - just soaking in the water. The fish hit light - could barely feel the bite.

Soft baits can be an anglers best friend. Sometimes a hard lure just isn't what catches the attention of a fish. Then you slide on a soft plastic and jig, or drag it through the weeds. Sometimes a real slow presentation under a bobber and wham there is the fish you have been waiting for.

Appreciate the well-wishes C-Man….. but alas we were skunked.

Put in on the east side of Chemong and headed north, thinking that the cold front had maybe pushed the fish deep, I was planning to drag a white grub slowly across the bottom of the big bowl at the north end ….the wind had other plans and even with the drift sock deployed we were cruising too fast

Tried a couple other spots out of the wind and no luck…..so we headed thru Harrington Narrows and into a gale….just for a ride - I’d never boated on Buckhorn much before.

A day on the water with your 11 year old is great whether you bring home fish or not …..

Sorry to hear that, it was very windy. A nice breeze is always fun but that day was quite gusty. Only had one of my friends report back to me. They caught two walleye hugging the west shoreline, staying out of the wind. I hope you have better luck next time you get out.
