Hey guys, I'm looking for lakes with crappie not looking for spots just good crappie fishing lakes. Love them but I have a hard time finding them and would like to get on some.

Where do you live and do you have a boat? How far do you want to drive?

You can get charts on the computer for the Kawartha Lakes. My friends fish all these lakes. My favourite is Balsam. You will need a chart to assist your search. If you fish Balsam find the 5 to 10 feet of water at the edges of the weeds where it drops off to deeper water. After dinner and into the night is best if you are comfortable fishing in the dark. The darker it gets the crappie move to the shallow areas to pick off the minnows swimming 18 to 24 inches under the surface.

I prefer the dark, but crappie feed 24 hours a day. There is many members on the forum that fish for them during the day. If I was fishing for them during the day it would be an hour before sunrise and up to lunch. The crappie will be shallow in the early morning and move back to the weed drop offs by lunch time. The big crappie have not yet settled into their fall feeding and schooling transition in the Kawarthas. Not just yet. There is the yearly fall blast of east wind this week, so I would say by next weekend the big crappie will be more abundant. But the Balsam monster crappie only come out at night.

Anytime. During the day my bait is half the depth of the water the boat is sitting in on Balsam. At night my bait is only 12 to 18 inches under the surface. Three S's...Slow...Steady....Shallow... at night. Walleye is the opposite at night or day. Four W's Wind...Waves...Wait...Wham.
