I know there is still lots of open water fall fishing to be had and good luck to all that venture out but want to throw this out to the folks that ice fish the Kawartha Lakes.
I am from the Windsor area and our group do an annual ice fishing trip usually to Lake Simcoe or Nipissing. Trying to mix things up a bit this winter and would like to target crappie/walleye on Balsam or lakes near by. Not looking for a honey hole just direction to a lake that folks know may be worth the travel.

Zone 17 which covers most of the Kawarthas does not allow ice fishing for Walleye. (with some exceptions I think). For that reason it may not be what you are hoping for. Crappie and panfish can be found throughout but IMHO not the best place for an ice fishing "trip". Just handy for locals to go out, grab some crappie or small perch and enjoy a day out.
Bay of Quinte might be worth a look if you are looking for a change of scenery. Have you tried Lake st Clair near you?

I do fish Lake St Clair and Rondeau Bay but we have not got much safe ice the past few years. We have fished Bay of Quinte twice, one trip was good the other stunk. Very hit and miss on Quinte. Thanks for the info
