Nothing like fishing in the dark and having the full moon looking down on you. Then the fog showed up as the temperature dropped. This made for the perfect horror film set. But no scarry muskie showed up last night. Temperature went down to 12 degrees with a slight west breeze. Most of the bass were caught on a 10 inch Zoom worm. All of the crappie and walleye were caught on crank baits and plastic under a slip bobber. There is a big difference between a bump and a bite. Last night the walleye and crappie were very aggressive bumping the baits. I have learned to wait the fish out and slow down the retrieve when a walleye or crappie bumps a crank bait. 90 percent chance the fish will follow up with a heavy bite. Almost the same with big crappie. But with a bobber after the bump the retrieve stops dead then wait 3 to 5 seconds. 90 percent chance the bobber goes down hard. I took a picture of the moon and fog. Sorry it is not very good.

Packed up the car earlier this afternoon and just got home a bit ago. Sunday night was quite different than Saturday night. There was a lot of small walleye, rock bass, crappie and bluegill last night. It was the amount of large mouth bass caught from 8pm until 4am that impressed me. The water was flat and the bass were aggressively hunting under the full moon. That was the single biggest night of catching bass in a few decades. There is never that many out in the dark. There was two beavers swimming around all night as well. Here is a small walleye, way too small.

Looks like you're enjoying yourself Jamie with all the different species. Keep on fishing my friend and enjoy the good eats!
Thank you Dale. Can't wait to get back out again next week, after Thanksgiving. I will be looking for your new pictures on here of your latest fishing adventures. Good luck with your crappie fishing. EDIT> Just saw your post and your 16 inch crappie. WOW. Last time I was at Balsam had to split beacause a bear showed up at my favourite crappie spot. Gotta get back there soon so I can catch some big crappie as well. Very Impressive crappie Dale.

Cooler, wet weather is on the way. The next couple of weeks we will see some single and low double digits in temperature. The fish will still be out there feeding, so keep fishing. The Kawartha lakes won't turn over until mid November. Keep fishing those drop offs, ledges and humps, also where there is water current. Look at a chart of your favourite lake and go explore the contours. Pack lots of gear and enjoy some fall fishing. Don't forget your PFD's and all your safety gear... Bring extra everything, you just never know... Good luck and stay safe.

This is just an example. Keep to the areas with the five and dime store depths. Where you see five feet and then a drop off you will find fish. Where you see ten feet and a drop off you will find fish. Keep in mind as the day rolls on and in the early morning those same fish are going to come shallow chasing those minnows that are just under the surface.

Stay close to those ledges. This is just an example on the chart, not locations of good fishing spots. I only fish the east side of the lake, north to south. The west shoreline of Balsam lake I have only seen on a chart. Never fished there once, never been there once.
