Does anyone know if operators have started drilling INSIDE the condos yet? Surely there must be enough ice by now? Coming up to SSIC this weekend and not looking forward to fishing outside in -23 temps on Friday.

Anyone that stayed last weekend have intel? Anyone up this week with info?

Paddy

Your question is puzzling to me.

If they can drill outside, why can't they cut holes inside?

Too much weight in a small area. Hut plus people inside pushes down the ice and up comes the water for more weight. Seen a guy on Simcoe park his car on the ice with a bunch of other cars then drilled a hole to check the ice thickness .The water shot up about a foot out of the hole. Good thing the water wasn't to deep still needed wreckers to get some off

When the ice is thin or weak the weight of the hut makes the ice sag. If you drill holes in the hut the water comes up through the holes because of this sag. Two years ago we went a day and a half with our holes drilled outside. After much whining on our part they drilled holes in our hut. By the next morning there was 10" of water outside our hut. The operator had to move us to another spot.

Just heard from the operator for our trip this weekend... NO holes drilled inside due to amount of snow and weight of the huts creating a lake around them.. we are packing all our pop ups and a lot of propane .. but hey beats not fishing ... hope this helps

Need to check with Outfitter. Some are drilling max holes inside, some are just drilling a couple of holes inside and some are zero holes inside. Lake is still inconsistent for ice thickness.

Kokemachine did a live stream from one of Rob's 5-star bungalows this afternoon and he was fishing and streaming from inside the shack.
