Hey guys, wondering what everyone’s opinion on best time of season is for Nipissing Walleye. I had to bail on this past weekend because both my kids were pretty sick and couldn’t leave the wife. So I need to rebook and wondering if I should go February which I’ve heard mixed opinions that it slows down a bit or March? What’s everyone’s opinions if you don’t mind me asking. Anytime is a good time? Lol

my personal opinion is that you should wait till March. I have been to nipissing in Feb and most times the fish are more lethargic , So my advice would be wait till around the 10th of March as the season shuts down on the 15th. Good Luck.

The fishing will tend to be better when it starts to warm in March, the risk there is ice condition and not going at all.
We fished in March mid-week one year and got lucky. We were literally the last group of the season, they cancelled everyone booked for that weekend. Ice thickness wasn't the concern. It was condition (water on top, etc.). That said, this year there's just not a lot of ice to begin with. Access may be an issue when it warms up (again).

We always found first ice was best, the first week or two in January but going to try March for the first time this year. That being said you are at the mercy of ice thickness and potential cancellation as well, especially bungalo operations so we book cottage/day hut in the early going as those go out first. Our February bungalo trip is usually hit or miss depending on the weather. We also find that a light bite is always the normal and rarely are they aggressive.
