Where about did you enter sturgeon? On the weekend there were a couple permanent huts out front my cottage at pleasant point. Ice was good last weekend. Not sure if the hut have been removed or if they are just gonna wait it out.
The two guys we saw fishing on Monday were about 3.5 miles south west of where you fish in front of your place. Not far from there was some thick ice and some thin ice. Slush and sponge no consistency west of there. So a floater suit would be a good idea. We'll a floater suit is always a good idea. Hope the cold Temps Sunday night Monday and Tuesday will add to the ice around there.

Thanks for the report CM. Would like to hit that lake this year ice fishing. Know a few weed beds/weed lines on that lake. Would love to get on some consistent crappie!

The crappie will be in the same spots as you fish in the hot part of the summer. Forget anything shallow during the day, ten feet down just won't cut it right now. Find a steep drop off shelf that goes down to 15 to 20 feet. Crappie will be suspended a few feet up from the bottom as the oxygen is still good near the bottom. I have no information at all on the ice right now. The next seven days are not very cold. I would use extreme caution fishing over the deep water that has current under the ice. For reference, my friends are not fishing Sturgeon right now over deep water. They are driving north a few hours to get to safer ice. Floater suits are always the best idea to go along with all the safety gear. The couple people I saw earlier this week had no suits on. Every year it's the same thing so many people out ice fishing or on snow machines with no gear. Parents taking children out on frozen water with no gear. Wow that makes no sense to me. Of course it's their own choice but why risk a life for a few fish, or a sled ride. $250 dollars and up for a suite that should last between 5 to 10 years before the expire date. I need a new one myself come to think of it. No ice is safe ice. Stay safe.

Also looking for an access point. Come down to crunch time to get out
Saw your posts and made a few calls. My friends are not fishing the main Kawartha lakes right now. They are still going north a bit to fish. I do not know the ice conditions at this time on Sturgeon. Have not been up there since my original post Jan. 23/24..... So as always bring all the safety gear. Good luck and stay safe. Also the post I put up on Jan. 26th referring to where to catch crappie is obsolete now. The crappie will have come a bit more shallow. They will be in 15 feet of water now max. Suspended 5 feet off the bottom. Three inch minnows is the best bait choice from 4pm until after dark. Still near the drop offs but not as deep now. A bit of current would be ideal but also the ice is not good in those areas as my friends have told me.
