Got checked by mnr on rosseau Sunday. Poor guy looked defeated not having his ice cleets walking out 400m on glare ice, looking like a lumberjack with a sled full of gear. Gave me a good chuckle. Great encounter.. nice guy.

Make sure you're following rules!

Maybe, but we have been checked several times in Muskoka. One guy was nice enough to take my word for being a senior rather than unzip my floater and root thru my pocket for my drivers' licence.

We did get a kick the last time when 2 guys in body armour packing pistols came walking from the shore to check on 2 old geezers sitting on chairs.

Yes indeed. We await with bated breath or, as us fishermen like to say 'baited breath'

Has fishing been so bad that we are now resorting to eating our bait?

Ah drew.. the fish pics......... what would you prefer? 12" laker caught on a 6" swim bait or a 12" pickerel caught in 90 feet of water at noon on a bright sunny day. These burbot were yummy. Beer battered and deep fried

Nothing spectacular this year in terms of fish. A lot of numbers, a couple 24ish" lakers

Hey that’s a great haul of burbot- I’m jealous. Haven’t caught one yet this season!

I’m guessing these came from 90ft too? Daytime catches? They’re being elusive this year in my local lakes.

I caught almost 30 in 2 hours.. seems I found my calling lol.. 1 of those northland glow jigs tipped with anything lol.. even tried a piece of bologna.. still worked. Took treble off and replaced withe 1 of those large super sharp gamatsu worm hook.

Ice thickness was 5+" clear ice.. it's relatively good at windemete... seen guys all over even 1-2 km out south of Tobin island. Would expect the same Saturday and possible better. 1"layer of white ice seems to be protecting the good stuff from the sun. Obviously don't take my word for it.. trek at your own caution and always be prepared to fall in.

@mykola.. I've been fishing 70+ feet.. I'm trying to stick to the 90 foot mark.. on a mission to catch an absolute whale.

If you ever see some whacko in the middle of the lake aggressively jigging two rods.. that's just me trying to get some herring.
