Up on a smaller lake in the Temagami region. We fished 3 1/2 days hoping to explore some other lakes in the surrounding area but with the cold weather moving in, we decided to focus our efforts on the one lake. Fishing was definitely slow, Friday was a tough day with only a few fish caught. Any marks were slow moving and mostly disinterested in anything we put down.
Saturday and Sunday picked up with the morning window from 7am-noon being the most productive time. The cisco would come by in small groups and actively pursue small spoons and soft plastics. The Williams ice jig, buckshot spoons and small soft plastic minnows rigged on a nedhead worked well. The majority of the cisco would hit on the fall.
The whitefish were harder to dial in. I was able to borrow my friend’s Aqua Vu to take a look at the bottom of the lake. 27’ on a mud/silt flat. I noticed that any contact with bottom would stir up a significant cloud of debris to the point I couldn’t see anything so from then on I minimized my jigging. As I was setting up the camera I saw a whitefish but was unable to take a photo before it swam away.
A dropshot setup with a live dace was the most effective for the whitefish. 1.5” off bottom above a 1/4oz weight with a fly above that. The weight would sink under the silt allowing the dace to sit an inch or so just above the settled sediment.
In total, we caught 2 whitefish, over a dozen cisco and 1 walleye. We had our chances with more whitefish but several were lost either half way up or at the hole.

Still a pretty good trip. Nothing came on the flies this time? A prefect use for the camera (not just for looking to see the fish but what you r bait may look like in the water). Nicely done.

None on the fly this time, at least none that I landed. I could see them on the sonar checking it out. I may have had 1 cisco hooked up on it for a moment.
