Our family went north for the long weekend and the ice had improved over the last week to 8 inches so we put some effort into ice fishing. We got on the lake Friday afternoon at 2:00 and fished until dark. We were a little rusty and lost a nice laker at the hole as well as a couple whitefish.
We returned in the morning and the first hour was slow. My son landed a nice 2.5 pound whitefish to great things started. We were fishing tip ups with spreaders on bottom and a minnow two feet up as well. I finally got a turn and landed a three pound laker. We had a steady stream of bites with some being landed and others coming off right at the hole. It’s hard to get those three way spreaders up an augered hole cleanly . We ended the morning with two similar sized lake trout and three whitefish. The next morning my son and daughter went and got three more whities all about 2.5 pounds.
On Monday morning my son went to a backlake with friends and caught two beautiful splake on minnows as well. We packed up in the afternoon and headed for home. Here’s some pics.
