Went out with Case'ys yesterday with my son and his buddy, was a great day but it was a dinkfest , tried everything we had but no Jumbo's . Thanks JB for the tip on the springbobbers picked up a few and worked really well. Well this is the 3 rd season I took the boys (men) out and no fish fry ! Better luck next time... Also ice firmed up but was super slick ,cleats needed especially when the sun got up.

Thanks for the report , SF, and glad you and boys had fun with Casey's
I was in the area with a buddy as well (walking with a portable) and it was slow for us as well.
We kept less than a dozen keepers with only a couple of jumbos and even dinks were often finicky so we had to work for them .
This is fairly typical right now as we are approaching mid winter and fish is becoming more sluggish and moving deeper to survive the coldest period of the winter feeding on insect larvae, bloodworms etc.
The ice was 6-7” (estimate as I did not measure it) and was booming and cracking pretty loud
It was still worth coming up, to see the beautiful sunrise on Simcoe

Yes it certainly was a beautiful sunrise , I would guess we caught well over 100 dinks and about 6 that went 10" or so between us but all released . We also didn't measure the ice but with the cold night it hardened up good. Thanks for the report and photo JB !

Nice !
Were you in a hut ?
How did you do?
Lots of fish around, lots of dinks, had camera down didn’t catch any over 9”. Yea had hut with Casey’s. great service, but on a day of dinks, one had to move around to find fish, and that’s kinda tough in a hut. Most my fish were on a high hook bloodworm. Dropped my liverwurst down the hole as I was making lunch….. I managed to flip it a couple times but no luck setting the hook. It remains at the bottom of the lake for one lucky and hopefully hungry angler.

Still you caught fish and had fun, minus the liverwurst, but it least you fed the perch to grow bigger
We were about 1.5-2 km to the west of Casey's but with similar result.
it's typical for February: the fish is not moving around much, with mostly dinks trying to fatten up.
I remember a few years ago in early March we had a ride from Taj from shore to his huts area but we were not in the hut but running and gunning (it was above zero temps) and the fish were very finicky so we had to drill lots of holes and catch 2-3 perch here and there.

I see that all Casey’s huts are listed as 4-person huts. Will he rent to just 2 people for a hut - my grandson has a reading week from college the last week in February, and I’d like to bring him up during the week sometime.

I am sure he can accommodate the two of you but you better check directly with him .
I remember he had smaller huts for single person or two but not sure if he still has them .

My daughter and I went out with Casey's yesterday and he provided a very nice sized hut. Results were limited again with what everyone else is saying. Mostly dinks on camera with the odd better fish now and then.
