I took my son for a Laker trip on Lake Joe for the first time. He is 10 years old and has never fished Lakers up to this point. The day started off very excited even though it was late as he slept in. We got out on the ice, and I set him up with a rod and a graph and a hole and walked away to set up two more rods. I just finished tying lures on the two rods looked over at my son and the graph and noticed a huge fish on his tube. I watched the rod load over and set into a nice little keeper for the table.
I didn’t even been there five minutes and the little guy already had a fish on the ice.
He fish that hole for about another 10 minutes and we hadn’t marked anything so we moved to another set of holes I had pre-cut. I set them up in those holes with a graphing his rod again and started walking away to pre-cut some more holes. I didn’t even get 20 steps away and he’s yelling “dad I have another one”.
15 minutes into the day there he is smiling away, and said “Dad I have my limit.”
Days like this are memories that never fade.
On the day we caught 8 Lakers in about 6 hours on the ice and lost 6 more.
I also managed to fluke a big smallie out of 55 FOW. Good new was it went back fast and strong. I hate catching smallies in deep water.
