Ice fishing 'demo' yesterday. Hannah scooped slush from holes and pinched worms in 1/2 so each bro got a piece. PS---the water was very shallow

They looked happy. Next year (if the ice is better) my son will get his first experience on the ice - I am very much looking forward to that.

Got my little guy out for short visit.

He was impressed by the big cracks.

And then the chariot ride back to shore once he was all wet after kicking the puddles.

Great to see kids out ice fishing. Good on both of you for getting them out.

We had a lot of fun. Those kids approach each new adventure with enthusiasm and love learning new things. I take the credit/blame for getting the younger bro quite hooked a couple of years ago by catching a few sunfish etc and he was really keen to try ice fishing.

Nick---your guy looks fascinated by your FF as well. My FF was certainly part of the 'entertainment pkg' for the kids as well.

We, or at least the adults, didn't expect any fish. It's mostly a sandy swimming area in the summer. As they say 'fish are a bonus'

Too Bad the ice is so bad this year.
It's a perfect time to get out for a lot of perch fun but Alas, Weather and ice thickness this year dictates a different scenario.

I would love to get a sled ride back if I soaked my feet. I need to start kicking puddles too.

FF....I plan to get an underwater camera when the time comes to keep the entertainment factor up for me....I mean him.

Can't wait for my future fishing partner (wife will fish with me sometimes, but it's not the same enthusiasm for the fishing compared with say the lunch on the trip....who puts down a fishing rod when the fish are on a feeding frenzy to get a bite themselves?).

I remember these days with my children over 20 years ago but will never forget the memories and the smiles of success. There is really no better feeling than living vicariously through the eyes of a child, when it comes to fishing......kudos to all of you. One of my daughters enjoyed childhood fishing but as an adult never goes. The other one is now an avid fisher lady and we still fish together ....last year I introduced her to the ultimate .....salmon fishing......she outfitted all of us old farts with a 18 lbs Rainbow followed by a 22 lbs Chinook....her catch with a proud papa is in my profile pic.

I am in a trailer park in Waubaushene and every year I try to find a young one that has that sparkle in their eye for fishing. The kid that runs up and down the bank all day and every day. The kid that hunts frogs. He is the one that will not be bored and be receptive to learning what I have in my 73 years of fishing....started when I was 2 years old thx to my Dad.....on the banks of a canal in Holland.

Arnie....my story is quite similar......

My dad took me fishing when I was 4 and we fished together until he passed away.

My own kid were into it at an early age, but the ventured away in their early 20's....but now my son is showing interest again......not so for my daughter

My wife goes with me the odd time but fishing is really not her thing although she for sure loves eating them

My passion never wavered and I commercial fished salmon in BC as a student for 5 seasons and never stopped after that

For the past 2 decades, my greatest joy is seeing youngsters hooking and landing fish. species does not matter really

like you say.when we get kids up to our cottage and they see the creek with frogs and crayfish in there, they are out there all day and barely want to come in for lunch

they are the future custodians and are worth the effort and time for us to get them into the sport

Wow damn near identical Werner. My wife used to fish with me too but not really her thing and she says I stay out to long and get up too early....lol.

I tell everyone in the park that the best seat in the house is the nose of my tinny and if you want to occupy that seat the bus leaves at 5am be on the dock in front of my boat with your life jacket on. BTW I get very few takers to that one as the buggers would rather party till late and sleep the morning away.

And yes you are quite right in saying they are the future custodians.
