Dreaded Blackflies

When does "blackfly season" LOL generally end each year in the Kawartha Lakes region? I'd like to take my son on a fishing weekend this spring, but would like to avoid being eaten alive!

This year they will be early. Definitely by end of April. Possibly in 3 weeks if this weather keeps up!

The Kawartha's are generally not too bad for blackflyes.....mosquitos, dear and horse flyes are always hungry on the other hand!

You can never avoid these when you get away from the city!

My neighbor was working in his yard just before dark yesterday. Mosquitos were out in full force. I know I'm no where near you but this is almost 2 months early. I typically don't see mosquitos when turkey hunting until early May.

All depends on how wet of a spring we have. With an early melt, if there's a prolonged wet & moderately warm spring we could have a very long BF season.

Either way pretty safe to say they're going to be out for Turkey season in some areas. BOO!!

Given the light snowpack and warm temps the bugs may come on strong early but unless we get some decent rain we may hit that summer lull early this year.

Killed my first black fly while sitting in my car with the windows open yesterday after work. Only one, and it was on my windshield inside.

Are these just not the survivors from last fall that survived the winter. that is what I normally see.
