It took until after lunch before the bobber finally went down. I was fishing in 10 to 15 feet of water, could not see very far down the water was not clear at all. After that until around 5pm there was lots of crappie. The water level is still down a foot at least. Not much wind, more like a breeze off and on. Saw one boat way down the lake, heading east that's it. Kept these three for my first crappie dinner of 2024.
Crappie are beautiful fish. Their black markings are so unique. I’ve heard they taste great as well, I’ve got a back lake at my cottage where I’ve caught them in the past. Might have to target them the next time I drag the canoe over.

Just thinking normally I’d start the search deeper, but wondering if I should start a bit shallower 6-10 feet since it’s been warm. I’ll probably take the kayak since the boats not yet ready so I won’t be able to run around and will have to be selective about spots. I have a few spring places I’m fairly confident in but granted I’ve never fished open water so early before.
Either way , very excited to get out.
One of my favorite spots( pics attached) you can actually see the crappie mixed in with the bluegill and it’s really just sight fishing dropping the bait on their nose. My guess is these guys are usually spawning.

Most beautiful, and best tasting fish. But I am bias, crappie will always be my favourite fish to hunt, catch and eat. Walleye is a close second.

Last year you asked a similar question in February. It's always good to repeat a question because this spring of 2024 is not the same as spring of 2023. So definitely not shallow the next couple days. I was fishing a drop off from 10 to 15 feet of water, 50 yards off shore. Crappie would be suspended about half way down. So fish close to the spot where you have caught crappie before..... But on the edge of where the water gets deeper. If the water level on the lake you are going to fish is low right now like Sturgeon is, the crappie will be out at the drop offs. Here is the same picture posted on your question last year. Next three days deeper, suspended fish. By Sunday everything changes again. This is going to be a weird start to spring. Good luck and stay safe.

You need an OnlyFans account or something so we can properly compensate you or all of this amazing intel!
Re: water levels, Scugog is definitely down. Motor was dragging in spots that are usually passable.
Only fans. LOL. . . . . . . . . I could use a few million dollars, but that's not going to happen anytime soon. All I need is family and friends...... Oh ya a roof over my head, food in the fridge and a reliable car is all I need. Also a couple of fishing rods, and a full moon to fish under all night.

Just got a text from a friend up a the lake. Winter is back and there is considerable ice where I put in last week to fish. Gas prices are going up. Grocery prices are going up. The sun is going up. When are the temperatures going back up????
