Just returned from my annual driving trip to Saskatchewan, made it an ice fishing tour alone with visiting where i used to live , started on Feb 27 th crossed at Sarnia ,went north in Michigan , my first stop was Little Bay de Noc .upper pennisula, bad ice, heaved ,moved on, went north into Minnesota ,second day to lake Gobabic ,known for its routine 15 inch perch, 8 inches of slush on good ice ,but walking wasn't an option here , the bad ice was a common thing all through Michigan and Minnesota , go farther north ,Lake of the Woods ,crossed at Fort Francis on the HWY to Kenora ,stopped ay Nestlers Falls , stayed 3 nights .40 inches of ice , auger to the max , road plowed 6 miles out ,unbelievable , 12 inch Crappie in about 25 ft .Stayed at C and C outfitters , great folks , left me there ,going to Dominican for 2 weeks . headed to Lake Winnipeg to Selkirk ,checked into Harvesters fishing ,they gave me the info I was looking for , on the east side north of Selkirk , they gave me the place to stay Bridgeview B and B , Louise been in business 20 years , great spot , ice was 36 inches ,road plowed , got the green back walleyes ,
Headed to Saskatchewan got to my destination on thursday close to Montana boarder . Went up to Lake Diefenbaker,36 in ice , after a rest , fished Sask landing one evening , walleye and burbot , then to Elbow ,more burbot , all 28 inches .
People along the way were great to give me the info that I needed , another year the ice ,hopefully will be better for Michigan and Minnesota , great time ,great people ,no set schedule , thats what retirement is all about , Ill be 75 soon
