Fished a lake in Kawartha yesterday. Came around 11:30. Fortunately no ice at the launch. At my spot at noon, still a pretty chilly trip with the temperature at 3C. Water temperature was around 3.5C. Spent about two hours trying to find pike, but no luck. And at this moment I saw a clould about a half way deep in 10' of water. What a rush to see the bobber going down after the first cast in that direction and reeling in a nice crappie. Was able to stay near them for some time and caught 15 and released one which seemed small comparing to others, but was probably 10". They disappeared later and I checked more shallow and deeper, but could not find. Came back to the area and caught a pike.

Another PB crappie for you. All those crappie are beautiful and WOW you found that school of hefty crappie that cruise the lake. I am just shocked you found them during the day, good job. Crappie that size usually don't come out to play until after dark. Your persistence really paid off yesterday. That will be a few very nice crappie feasts for you and the family. Nice pike as well. I was wondering when you would be breaking your PB crappie again this year. Now you have eight more months of soft water fishing to catch an even bigger one. That monster will be hard to beat, but they are in there. I laugh at people that think that giant crappie do not exist. Don't forget where you caught them. Welcome to the Monster Crappie Club. That's a beast. Thanks for the report and pictures, some real nice thick fish in that pile.

Wow! What a great day! I went out on Saturday too, on the water by 5:30am - 1pm. Too bad I couldn’t find the elusive school but enjoyed the day. Such a bluebird clear day on Sat. Super jealous! Congratulations!

The pictures don’t do it justice until you show the 16 inch on a tape. Some of those on the grass has thick shoulders! How much does a 16” weigh? Pushing above 2 lbs?

Thank you, CM. It is great to be an inch from the Ontario record, but I doubt I will be able to get above 16". I lost 4 yesterday and one of them fought harder than all the others. It was a short fight, 2 sec max. Could be a pike, but the line was fine. If it was a crappie could be 16+

We can go out to where you found those crappie yesterday sometime at night and we will find the record. You always out fish me and get a new PB crappie or walleye or muskie the few times we have been out. When ever I fish with someone they always seem to catch fish and I turn into the guide and the net guy. LOL.

I did not weigh unfortunately. The chart on the Internet says 16" should be 2.6lb and it was not a skinny one. While cleaning I Iooked at the shoulders and it seemed to be 2.5".
