Ok.....Storm. Walleye. Crappie.

Started in the boat in the afternoon in deeper water, about 10 to 12 feet. Very close to a 20 foot drop off shelf. Basically jiged like cod fishing. Caught some fish then the rain started around 4pm. Made it out and back to the house for some food. Out of nowhere came the storm with lots of thunder and lightning. Then the wind and hail the size of marbles, piled up on the deck.

Waited for the thunder to finish, then back to the lake to fish. Rain, rain and more rain, but not much wind at all. Lots of rockbass and a few perch before dark. Walleye started at dusk and then crappie. All the walleye were between 12 and 16 inches, and the crappie were between 10 and 14 inches. Only a few mosquitoes but enough to use the bug spray. Here is a few pictures.

I let all the walleye go, even the ones in the slot were too thin.

I can keep going, there is dozens of pictures. LOL.

My friend kept his limit in crappie, even with me yelling at him to "Save The Whales" I kept these three fat ones. Going back out soon so I will keep a few more tonight. Maybe catch a fat walleye as well.

Not sure if I have posted this before. Most people use smaller bobbers and jigs. Bigger is always better for my night fishing. Large bobber with two weights on it and a quarter ounce jig casts a good 20 yards further than smaller set ups. When fishing at night, the fish following the bait is the expectation. I try and cast past the school, then slowly retrieve the bait drawing the crappie away from the rest. This is done to try and not spook the fish and keep the school in tact. Not as easy at it sounds. If you disturb a school of feeding fish like crappie and walleye at night. Bye Bye, they are gone for a bit until they slowly return to where they were feeding. That's if your lucky and the fish do return. The secret to catching mutiple big crappie in the dark is a slow and steady retrieve, with no twitching 99% of the time. I never look for a reaction bite at night. Just want the fish to be interested and follow the bait for a few yards away from the rest.

Yes yesterday was great, except for the delays from the storm. At least there was no dents in the cars. I thought for sure there wood be more damage. The hail was breaking off small branches on some old trees and shredding leaves.
