Drove up to the lake on Thursday to catch some walleye and crappie. Started late afternoon and the fishing was good with some bass, perch and rock bass. Perfect conditions with a breeze from the NW and nice and cool. Lots of bugs but not one mosquito as the sun was setting. No mosquitoes at all in fact, for the whole night. No walleye or crappie either from sunset until around 4am. Just one more bass and a few more rock bass. Then as the moon was getting high in the sky, and the east horizon had a hint of light, WHAM!.......Finally a walleye hit my bait like a truck. Better late than never was my first thought. This went on until just before sunrise, with quite a few huge hits on my crank baits. That was it though, just quick, hard smacks (headbutts) on the baits, but no takers. Packed up my stuff and before leaving, put my flashlight in the water. You could see a few walleye sitting in the shallows, just a few feet away from my friends dock. It got down to around 4 degrees and was a perfect night of fishing with nothing to show for it. Had a great time fishing with some frustration mixed in. It's always possible to get skunked even when you know the fish are there. Went back to the house and got a few hours sleep before heading back home to watch the Oilers game last night. My friend just sent me a text and last night he caught some nice walleye, and a few bass off his dock. Missed it by 24 hours, I was on his dock for over 12 hours, the night before. LOL. Should have waited and fished last night instead of Thursday night, but really wanted to see the Oilers win........... You make choices and you live with them. LOL. Here are some pictures of my trophy fish.

Anyone who has fished with me knows I always wear gloves, but it got really cold and damp Thursday night. So the gloves were a bit thicker and warmer. And warm socks and boots with some layers added under the jacket as the night went on. My kind of weather, (cold) but summer is just around the corner. Good luck to all with the warmer weather on the way soon. Stay safe.

I say stay safe quite a bit, not just on the Fishing Forum. Have a great summer wherever your adventures take you.

Your post me feel a bit better... I got skunked too. I was trying to find Walleye in and around Honey harbour area. (the locals say they are there...sure they are....lol.).

Although, I believe your skunk is a rarity...mine, well not so much.

Cheers,

Yes everybody gets skunked eventually. I post all my adventures, even if the walleye or crappie are not hungry. Just being out all night in perfect fishing weather, was great on Thursday.

Cheers,

Maybe those locals gave you poor intel. LOL. Posted this almost two years ago. Mother Nature warned me before I went fishing, went anyway and got skunked. Did not catch any crappie all night. But who cares, just getting out there on the water was great.
