Hey guys I’m looking for someone who is experienced and willing to field some questions about fishing Owen sound/ Huron in a smaller boat. Mostly wind/ safety related. If someone is willing to help me out in some private messages that would be awesome (can’t figure out how to send one at the moment)

What kind (tiller/steering wheel) and size of your boat/motor is important for us to give you some healthy advice.

Ahhhhhh ok thats why I can't PM ok. well I have a smoker carfat 161 pro angler side console. 16'long with a 50hp motor. it wasn't bought specifically for Huron/ owen sound more so for inland lakes but I'd like to get out when the weather cooperates. i have 2 downriggers on it and have been out on huron and gotten into fish already. just wondering what the safe wind for Owen sound would be. Huron i'm ok with.

I have a similar set up but fish out of Wasaga Beach. I have found that I am good to get out with winds up to 13 km. I try to avoid more than that. I use a couple of wind apps to guide me. Windy, Windfinder and Wind Alert. I certainly am not the most experienced guy and am interested to hear from others too.

So I’m assuming S, SE and Sw would be more ideal?

Yup south east or west I definitely do not go out in north or north east winds as it collects rollers coming in from the big lake your boat is a foot longer and 30 more hp than my little boat spend some time out there check the wind forecast and you should b fine good luck

I have a 16ft Legend and I stay off the water if the winds are greater than 15kmph. Just too bouncy. Had hoped to fish out of Meafod tomorrow, but no go based on forecasts. Monday looks much better.

Ok perfect thanks everyone. I have been using Windfinder my main concerns were wind direction but I think I’m getting a better understanding now. Safety first lol
