Been a tough season so far. been out 11 times and saw 3 deer two weeks one day to far for bow. Cameras seem to only get coyotes. Today had a bit of snow on ground so had my hopes up. 730 seen a coyote cross trail about 50yds out while it was really snowing. 805 I see a deer coming from behind me up wind. I get ready and it comes up the trail that I'm covering. It stops 22yds out, I thought it was broad side shot but wasn't, it must have turned towards me a bit so quartering to me. Bolt where I was aiming and I watch deer run for a bit than starts to walk, so figured a good sign. Go get Sam (dog) and quad. Come back to where the deer was and there is hair no blood and bolt no where to be found. Sam picks up the trail, we go 600yds to get it. I would not have gotten this deer if not for Sam. This is her 7th deer she has gotten for me in her 5th season.

longfish I couldn't agree more, all I have to do is dress warm and sit and wait, then pull triger. She has to sit in cold jeep than ran after the quad, find sent and track down deer and then guard it while I field dress. Not sure which see is better at or which she enjoys more, goose hunting or deer tracking. whatever she is my hero.

Congrats.

Going up to camp tomorrow to set up my climber and put come corn out. Supposedly 80cm of snow there in the last few days. Will be taking 2x snowmobiles - one for me and one for my wife and granddaughter who will be tobogganing while i set stuff up. Then Xmas tree hunting and hot chocolate at the woodstove.

I too have a great hound who has found a whack of lost deer over the years. He is a walker/rotti cross and is 13 years old. He is still spry and fit but does not have the stamina anymore to plow through deep snow for hours on end but still has no problem with stairs or jumping directly from the ground onto the seat of my 3/4 ton.
