I finally got out yesterday for steelhead. I’ve been wanting to get out for a month now but something always comes up. Also the water has been really low and clear in the local rivers.
I started at 9:30 and fished until 1:30. I hooked the first fish in half an hour of fishing but lost it on the edge of the ice as I was trying to land it. About an hour later I landed a coloured hen around 6 pounds. I turned it back as I was looking for a better eating fish.
I moved down river to a new stretch and hooked and landed a beautiful chromer that I kept….5 1/2 pound hen. I hooked and landed a 7 pound male that I also kept for the smoker for Christmas appetizers. Just as I was walking back to the truck it started getting serious about raining so my timing couldn’t have been better!
We ate one fillet fresh for supper and vac-packed one for a weekend meal.
