Gorgeous sunrise.
Two klick plus walk.
Set up shop in my third hole.
Constant action all day except for a brief lull around noon. I didn't drink or eat until the cosmos intervend and with the reprieve.
I was able to sight fish in between 18 and 20fow. I was sniping the bigger ones.
Easily could have limited out but settled for half a bucket.
Broke two rods and my rod case zipper, and lost my spud bar in the walk out. One rod damaged during transportation, the other I named Icarus because it insisted on getting too close to the heater. Retraced my steps back to shore and found my sud bar in the possession of a fellow angler. Nice young fella was happy to return it to its owner.
The ice was a singing and a dancing today. Many of those, "oooo that was close" cracks. However, there was massive adjustment. The ice heaved significantly and felt like an earthquake or the beginning of a mechanical bull ride. Turns out the pressure crack formed about 20 feet behind me. Reminded me of that joke of yesteryear where the Captain asks for his brown corduroy pants upon sight of the Spanish Armada.
Six and a half inches, measured.

Love sight fishing for perch...a good way to keep the dinks off. But man, it can be hard on the neck and between the shoulder blades though

Well done. I'm glad you got your spud back. Sucks about the rods, I hope they weren't expensive or sentimental. Looks like a good feed. And yes I can relate to the sore neck from sight fishing, but it's worth the pain sifting through the schools and targeting the keepers

Thanks gents! I like the peer recognition almost as much as the fishing. Humour is my crutch, my coping mechanism, and how I approach life.

6.5" of ice at hole, measured. I had intended to include that fact originally.

Neck, back, arms, shoulders, legs ,and feet all unhappy about the outing. I passed out at 930 last night and slept in until 730; I never sleep past 5.

Dale, someone had to give you a run for your money. My buddy is on Couch today and tomorrow and wants me to join, but I don't know if I'm up to it. Also, I wouldn't mind enjoying the wildcard games.

I don't think the Shakespeare noodle rod is being made anymore, and I won it one year at the Perch for MS derby. The Schooley 14" UL, affectionately referred to as the "perchinator" will be replaced as it shines for sight fishing. So yes Jerry, there was some sentimental value. Empathy is always appreciated

James you know, anytime you want just ask.?

great story, really nice fish and sunrise. I can relate to the pressure crack scare. I was out a few years ago and you could hear this thunder coming and getting louder than all of a sudden it felt just like you said. Couple minutes later I look on other side of quad there a big gap in the ice that I started fishing through.
